HSS Tap

SF124 Metric Left-Hand Blind Hole Cutting Taps

Metric Blind Hole tap

HSS-ETiN coating

The SF124 left-hand spiral tap is designed specifically for left-hand threads, precisely machining standard-compliant left-hand threads. It effectively improves machining speed, thread accuracy, and tool life, enhancing machining efficiency and thread quality while reducing costs. It is particularly suitable for applications in the automotive, aerospace, machinery, and hydraulic industries where high metric or imperial thread accuracy is required. It performs exceptionally well in high-efficiency machining and with complex materials. The spiral flutes of the left-hand spiral tap deflect chips in the opposite direction (usually downwards or outwards from the hole), reducing chip clogging and damage to the machined surface. Suitable for rust-resistant and acid-resistant materials – austenitic stainless steel; ferritic and martensitic stainless steel; pure titanium; nickel alloys; pure copper. Used in tapping spindles with axial compensation (conventional thread cutting) or rigid tapping.

Engineering Features

Design details engineered for accuracy, tool life and process stability.

DIN371 standard metric thread profile

Ground using a high-precision thread grinder, the thread profile accuracy is controlled within ±0.01mm, and the thread surface finish can reach below Ra0.4μm, ensuring the accuracy of left-hand thread connections.

Multiple coating options

TiAlN, TiCN, TAD, TiN, DLC, etc., with coating hardness up to HV3400, a friction coefficient as low as 0.15, and tool life 2-3 times longer than uncoated taps.

Carbide (FAX/VHM) substrate

Ultra-fine grain carbide substrate with a hardness of HRC65, offering 50% improved chipping resistance, suitable for tapping difficult-to-machine materials such as stainless steel and high-hardness steel.

HSS/HSSE substrate

High-speed steel (HSS) and high-performance high-speed steel (HSSE) substrates, combining high toughness and red hardness, suitable for tapping general-purpose materials such as steel and aluminum alloys.

Left-hand spiral taps are typically made of high-quality high-speed steel (HSS), powder metallurgy steel (PM-HSS), or cemented carbide, with appropriate coatings (such as TiN, TiAlN, TiCN) to adapt to a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and other non-ferrous metals.

The left-hand spiral tap design reduces uneven cutting forces, making the machining process smoother and reducing the risk of thread deformation.

In blind hole machining, it prevents chip accumulation at the bottom of the hole, improving machining efficiency and quality.

The spiral flute structure performs excellently in chip removal and cutting processes in deep threaded holes.
